I’m over half way through my Trigger Your Blog 7-Day Blogging Challenge. As the creator and host for the week, I thought it only right to share my own blog posts and be a participant too.
For my day 4 blog prompt the task was to put together a simple tutorial. This gave me the idea to create this ‘how to write a tutorial’ post of my own!
Tutorials are one of the most popular forms of posts on the internet and something which I turn to when I need to learn how to do all sorts of different things.
Here is my step-by-step to writing a tutorial:
STEP 1 – Decide what you want to want to teach your readers. This is probably the biggest stumbling block because it is easy to doubt ourselves and believe we are not the expert. By sharing your tutorials this helps you to become the expert in your niche. You want to keep the tutorial simple and digestible, only teaching one thing at a time. Popular tutorials are recipes, makeup looks, hair, how to’s on technology, making something crafty, the list can go on and on!
STEP 2 – Break your tutorial down. Share exactly what your reader needs to do to reach the end goal. It might sound simple to you but if someone is learning how to do something for the first time you need to break it down.
STEP 3 – Go through the tutorial yourself or write it down when you are doing it. Even if you can’t physically make the pie your recipe describes, you can go through it in your mind to make sure you haven’t missed a step. This is also a good time to take photos, however, these are not always necessary. Sometimes a photo can enhance the experience if something might not be clear but often I see tutorials with far too many photos which are unhelpful.
STEP 4 – Make it clear in the title exactly what your reader will learn how to do from reading your blog post.
STEP 5 – Share your tutorial on your blog, on social media and to your newsletter list. Basically, share it with the world so people will know where to come for the best tutorial on your subject!

I wish I read this before posting my post yesterday, this has helped. I do find it hard trying to find places to advertise my blog to the right people, any tips for that at all?
Also loving the Challenge, I feel sad that it will end it, have been really enjoying it 🙂
