In my February recap I mentioned I was given a trophy at the V.C.Bradford club dinner. I thought it would be nice to share a little bit more about the club and the award!
I have been a member of V.C.Bradford for as long as I can remember! I probably wasn’t officially a member when I was child but I did spend a lot of time at Pennine Cycles (which is owned by mum and they also sponsor the cycling club). When I was 14 I began working at the bike shop on Saturdays and in the school holidays. I continue to work there now, working mainly behind the scenes!
For the last few years I have also been the organiser of the Nige Moore Memorial Road Race. This is a race put on by the cycling club in memory of Nigel Moore who sadly passed away. He was a really active member in the club and it’s nice to be able to put on a race in his name.
The trophy which I was presented with is the Darren Ridehalgh memorial trophy. Again this is in memory of a club member who died when he was in his 20’s. The trophy was given to the club by Darren’s parents and the intention is for it to be awarded to a member who has been an ambassador for the club over the last year. Due to my bike race organisation I was given the honour this year.
I would have been 9 when Darren died and I although I don’t remember him I do remember someone from the club dying at a young age. I think it is a really nice thing the cycling club has been able to keep the trophy going for all these years and every year it has been handed out. My dad was actually the first person to be awarded the trophy – So it’s nice the trophy has come full circle!
It’s always nice to be recognised for doing a good job and I have put the trophy on display in my lounge for everyone to see! 🙂
