I had a fantastic weekend watching the first ever Tour de Yorkshire. Being a huge cycling fan and after an amazing time watching the Tour de France last year I couldn’t wait! The Tour de Yorkshire is a 3 stage race riding along the roads of Yorkshire.
I vlogged my weekend which you can watch here.
For me, the weekend began on Saturday for stage 2. Myself and Keil went to watch the finish in York. We got to York early and our first stop was Bill’s for breakfast. Early in the day I was wanting to preserve my batteries so didn’t take any photos or film but as always it was delicious!
At 10am the women’s race began which was a 4 lap race around York. We watched a couple of laps and checked out the start/finish area. It was really cold thanks to a bitter wind so we went in the Slug and Lettuce to warm up, we could also just see the race from our table so that was a bonus!
Once the women’s race was finished there was a gap before the men’s race would arrive from Selby so we had a little walk around and stopped for a quick drink in a traditional pub by the iconic York Minster – It was then time to get our spot for the race.
York was busy but as the race was going twice around the city there were plenty of places to watch everything. We finally walked down to the finish line and watched the final sprint and jersey presentations at the end.
Once the race was over we walked back towards the centre and tried to warm up – We were so cold! Then we made our way back to the train station and went home.
The next day the race came much closer to home so we could have a lazy morning before setting off to our viewing area at Brow Top in Haworth. This was a sharp corner so the riders had to slow down, it was a great place to watch! I also contributed to the Pennine Cycles vlog which you can watch here.
Once the race had gone by we went back to my mum’s house (it was also her birthday) to watch the race finish on the TV and celebrate her birthday with some prosecco!
After all the excitement we had worked up an appetite and so we went for a delicious Italian meal at Valentino’s in Bingley – It was the perfect end to a great weekend!

Hi there!
I am popping over from the BEDM link list as I would love to visit everyone to give a bit of support and say hi as a fellow participant! Tis very nice to meet you and I love this post- HOW cool to go and see this!!! My husband is a huge cyclist and fan of watching the TdF so I am sure he would have loved this! I liked watching the TdF on tv, so it must be amazing to go and see it. I did a 52 mile cycle ride a couple of years ago and the atmosphere even at this amateur event was amazing!
You’re obviously super busy but if you wanted to say Hi, that’d be just lovely!
xx
