Sometimes, especially mid-afternoon you just need a snack! One thing I’ve noticed when it comes to snacking is often what’s on offer are sweet and sometimes you just need that savoury kick! Houmous and guacamole are great dips with carrots but these take a little bit of time to make. If you just want things in your cupboard which you can grab I’ve got you covered!
These three favourite snacks of mine are all perfect to grab a handful or put in your lunchbox for a handy snack.
Wasabi Peas
These are a recent discovery for me but a good one. Basically they are a crispy pea with a spicy wasabi seasoning. It’s really a bit of Russian Roulette, sometimes you get one not too spicy and the next can blow your head off! Although they have been processed to get that crispness they do contain fibre and well they are just so delicious!
Pistachios
I am not a huge lover of nuts but I do enjoy pistachios. I first found pistachios when I was in Singapore and went to The Long Bar in Raffles Hotel, here you have your pistachios with your cocktail and throw the shells on the floor! When I’m at home I put the shells in the bin but I just think they are a great tasting snack. The fact you have to deshell them also adds to the excitement as every now and again you get one which just won’t open!
Roasted Chick Peas
This snack is the only homemade snack on the list – You have to make them in advance but they then last for a long time (depending on how many you eat). I used dried chick peas and rehydrated them overnight in water. The following day I put them on a baking tray and covered with curry powder, I also think paprika or cajun seasoning would work well. Roast them for about 40 minutes and then once they are cooled you have another great snack for the week.
I love to mix all three of these snacks into a dish and have them all together.
Do you have a favourite on the go snack? I’d love to find more quick and easy snacks to try!
Love pistachios 🙂
