A Fun Night at Oistins Fish Fry Barbados

It’s said no trip to Barbados is complete without a trip to Oistins Fish Fry. We have been before on previous trips and decided this holiday to Barbados would include another night there. Friday’s are the most popular nights, especially with the locals, much like a Friday night at home when everyone goes out.

After a rum punch at our hotels happy hour we set off. Not long after we left the hotel we were beeped by a reggae bus to see if we wanted to go to Oistins, we were a little hesitant as the bus looked full. After some shuffling about we squeezed in (this wasn’t as tight as the year I had to sit on Keil’s knee to travel!).

Once we arrived it was pretty busy, it felt different to before and we decided it was more organised. Oistins has a lot of food places, they are all lined up and grill your dinner to order. This meant there were quite a few people wanting you to sit at their tables. To start with we grabbed a Banks beer and had a wander around. Along the outside there are stalls which sell local crafts and in the middle are the food huts and a stage with banging music and a few people dancing and generally having a good time!

We deiceded to get some fish cakes which is most defiantly one of our favourite things to eat in Barbados. They come as little balls so are easy to share, we bought 6 and walked around whilst we ate.

After a little while we decided to sit down and have our dinner. We stopped at Shirley’s which seemed a little quieter and we hoped a little bit cooler as it was very humid that night. I ordered the Mahi Mahi and Keil went for Kingfish. I have to say although mine was nice his was the best choice, it was bigger and much meatier than mine! They also mixed our sides up, which wasn’t a problem except Keil got my delicious macaroni pie! We did share a bit so it wasn’t all bad.

Once we had finished we went to watch the dancing on the stage and had a few drinks and an ice cream before we decided to head back towards The Gap. The buses stop at 12 and we thought it was better to hop on the bus. When the reggae bus stopped it looked just as full as the one we arrived on but luckily we managed to squeeze in next to the driver so it was quite a pleasant trip!

When we got to The Gap we headed to happy hour at Cafe Sol and had a chat whilst the world went by. We then walked down though The Gap and had a drink at The Ship Inn, here they had a live band playing.
