Last year I bought tickets to see the Kings of Leon at Manchester Phones 4 U Arena. So this has been quite a wait! Originally the plan was to stay in Manchester for the night but as I have had so much on recently I decided to drive. I once got the last train home and it was so crowded I vowed to never do it again! We arrived in Manchester early so went for some food in Prezzo, at the Printworks.
Once we had finished we walked over to the Arena. This was the first time we got tickets to stand. We have always sat down at bigger venues. I like this but I always want to get up, dance and sing and feel bad if the people behind aren’t doing the same. I am not always a fan of crowds and can get quite anxious, so I was a little concerned about standing. We agreed we wouldn’t go near the front to the pit. When we got inside there was still 40 minutes until the support group, White Lies came on so we sat near the barrier at the side. We actually stayed here all night, it didn’t get too busy and we were a lot closer to the front than we planned to be. The only downside was people constantly walking around and in the last song an unidentified liquid was thrown and splashed my arm – Yuck!
I wasn’t familiar with the White Lies music although I did recognise a couple of their songs. It must be hard being a support band but I thought they did a great job. There was a 30 minute break once they finished before the Kings of Leon came on.
I filmed the very first part on my video where they played behind a screen until this was dropped and then they appeared! What impressed me the most was they sounded just like their records do, it was basically like listening to them on my iPod! They also had some immense graphics, lighting and videos going on behind them. None of this detracted from the music though. They sung a few songs from their Mechanical Bull album. Of course they also played their big hits too!
They played the obligatory encore and finished with a fabulous rendition of Sex on Fire! This ended with some fireworks on the stage.
It really was a great performance and I defiantly love the Kings of Leon more now after seeing them live!
What’s your favourite Kings of Leon song? Comment below! It’s hard to choose but on the night I loved Beautiful War!
