When an email popped up into my inbox inviting me to attend BBC Radio1 Xtra Live at Leeds Arena I had to say yes straight away! I love live music and so this event sounded like a good chance to listen to different artists who I may not normally go to see. I was invited by Three mobile to attend and also try out the Samsung Galaxy S6 phone for the evening.
I arrived to the arena and was handed my phone to use for the night. I had the very first Samsung Galaxy when smartphones were not quite smart and you could barely use the internet and apps didn’t exist! The new Galaxy is a really nice phone and I quickly got to grips with it.
I met the group I would be spending the evening with, it’s always lovely to meet new people. Keil also came along and wrote about his experience on Voltage Sport.
Our first stop was the bar where I ordered a glass of wine – I was handed over a full pint so that was me sorted for a while! Our seats were quite high up in the arena, the last time I went was for the Tour de France Team Presentation so an urban music concert was quite different!
One cool feature on the Galaxy phone is the beauty mode which you can use when taking a selife. It does all your editing for you and was fun to test out. I took some photos of the acts too and to say we were sat high up and there was lots of smoke and lights I think the photos came out well. All of the photos I took on the night I’ve left unedited except for a little cropping on some of them. You can find more information about the Samsung phone here.
I’m not a big listener to Radio1 Xtra, they mainly play RnB, hip and hop and grime but I did know most of the acts! One of the highlights was a video of Craig David – That was totally my style of music back in the day! My music taste has varied much more than when I only listened to RnB but I still love a good classic.
The show was opened by Miguel who I wasn’t too familiar with but he had a good voice. There were 10 acts playing on the night and of course I’m not going to love them all but there was noone I thought was terrible! My favourites were Flo Rida, Lethal Bizzle and Tinie Tempah who finished the show and was really good.
It was nice to use a different phone as by the end of the night my own phone still had lots of battery to use! I already use Three for my mobile phone, one of the reasons for the evening was to share the new 4G SuperVoice. The idea of this is you can pick up signal for phone calls and text messages when you are in really busy places, such as an arena. One thing I also learnt is when you travel to certain countries you can use your phone at no extra cost – This means you can call, text and use your data when abroad for free! This is currently available in 18 countries – 1 of them is America so on my trip to Las Vegas next year I will be able to post to my Instagram easily and regularly!
Once the night ended a few of us went for a couple of drinks afterwards and we discovered the 7 Greet Street Social which is underneath The Liquorist and requires a special code to get in and open the door which was cool!
Overall I had a great night, I really loved the event and it was nice to do something different on a Saturday night.
